Week 2 - Mucking around Calgary

17th - 21st May - Not much to say here - had to do all the boring things like get SIN Numbers (like our IRD Number) and Healthcare and fun things like that. Plus busy looking for work.

However, we did have lunch in the Davonian Gardens in the city. It is located on the top floor of a shopping mall in the city with a glass ceiling to let in the light. I think this is the only way Calgarians can enjoy a garden as otherwise the weather is too extreme to both grow the plants and to sit in it and enjoy.

The turtles and the fish in the ponds seem happy - I bought my handful of fish food and they didn't seem interested. Obviously, this is a popular past time!

May 21st Experienced Tony Romas for the first time. They are famous for ribs apparently and have franchises all around the world (except for New Zealand of course). The courses were huge and it was just as well I ordered a half slab of pork ribs otherwise I wouldn't have finished them!

Saw Shrek 2 Afterwards - it rocked! Definitely worth seeing for the CG alone. And the story wasn't bad either. (You have to go to see it just to support Andrew Adamson who produced and wrote it - he is a Kiwi and is the brother of a friend of Craigs).

May 23rd The weekend turned out crap weather wise (we actually got a tiny bit of snow yesterday but it was wet and didn't stay on the ground - but our first snow all the same).

So, we decided to go to West Edmonton Mall - this was surely something we didn't quite think about because the three hour journey each way through endless flat fields on the plains was, well, boring! I pity those who commute there regularly. However, it was a spectacle alright. OK, so we didn't really shop (coz remember we are unemployed), but did have a good look around. The mall includes an ice-skating rink

An indoor theme park (we didn't go in); flamingos, submarines, a pirate ship, dolphin show, underground aquarium (and you can even go for a scuba or bell dive in this pool)

a water park - with waves & water slides and stuff

a shooting gallery - Steven and Craig decided to be boys and shot a 0.4 callibre and 0.45 callibre pistol (yep those monsters on the poster weren't quite going to come and get you - who are you kidding!)

Unfortunately, we couldn't go all that way and not actually buy anything so the Hills bought a puppy! She is a Golden Retriever named Shayla and she is SOOO cute (well until she poo'd in their bedroom!)

May 24th OK so the Calgary Flames (ice hockey) weren't playing this night - apparently they are playing tonight - the 25th. Apparently, this is the first time in a long time that a Canadian team has come close to winning the Stanley cup (they are in the playoffs) so everything is Flames Mad around here. But we still decided to celebrate a Canadian Tradition by having S'mores. These puppies are made by toasting a marshmallow over a fire and putting them in a sandwich made of Graham Crackers (kind of like Digestives I reckon) and chocolate - OMG - this was just sinfu!!!

If you want to try out this for yourself visit this website!! (Obviously a S'more addict)
