Week 3 - Still unemployed!
Well,
The Blog is getting more updates than I anticipated...mainly becuse we haven't got jobs yet! , so we've got time to do it.
Never mind, we've been keeping ourselves busy on small projects on the computers, and soaking up a bit of the local atmosphere.
Christine, you'll be pleased to note I have taken up Tennis with Steve (our "landlord") for fun... which is going ok, considering it's been 16 years since I've picked up a racket :).
To put it mildly, Calgary is ICE HOCKEY MAD! at the moment.
The local NHL team, the Calgary Flames is in the Stanly Cup finals (like the SuperBowl of Ice hockey) for the first time in 15 years, and the whole of the city (and country) is cheering for them (being the Candaian team..the other team in the finals, the Tampa Bay Lighning are American).
We've all been whatching the playoff games, and have come to understand (and in my case) really enjoy the sport.
Last thursday night, for game 2 of the stanloy cup finals series, we went down to the Calgary Hockey stadium (the Pembrooke Saddledome) to whatch the game on the big screens, with 35000 other fans! which was great fun, even though the flames lost 4 - 1 ... the actual game was beeing played down in Tampa bay, with the next 2 beeing played up here at the saddle dome...no chance at getting tickets though, and even if we could..we'd be looking at $1000 candaian at least for a ticket!

This weekend, we also took a trip up to Banff national park, which is also home to the local skii fields.
Allthough they are all closed at the moment

We stopped off (to let the puppy go for a wee) at Nakiska, which has a nice river / walk, and a Kayak white water course on it

And then drove on to have a good look around a small part of Banff including lake louise skii resort

and Lake louise itself

which was all very beautiful, but I can't WAIT for the skii season to start...the facilities and moutains here are awesome.
The best skii field (sunshine mountain) is about 1:50 drive from where we are (SW Calgary), so that should mean some great skiiing and snowboarding next season if we hang around calgary (aka if we can find work soon!)
